Workstation Recommendation for Moldex3D 2026 – BLM Meshing and Large Models
I am looking for recommendations for a new workstation for Moldex3D 2026.
We mainly work with complex plastic parts containing multiple metal inserts. Some of our models have approximately 10–30 million mesh elements.
Our main problem is BLM mesh generation, which can sometimes take a very long time or appear to stop progressing.
We currently have a 16-core Moldex3D license.
We received two offers for an HP Z2 Tower G1i workstation:
Option 1:
- Intel Core Ultra 9 285K (24 cores)
- 64 GB RAM
- NVIDIA RTX PRO 2000 16 GB
- 1 TB SSD
Option 2:
- Intel Core Ultra 9 285K (24 cores)
- 64 GB RAM
- NVIDIA RTX 4000 Ada 20 GB
- 2 TB SSD
Moldex3D has also recommended workstations with AMD Threadripper PRO processors, including the 7955WX, 7965WX and 7975WX.
We are particularly interested in the AMD Threadripper PRO 7965WX (24 cores) with 128 GB RAM.
I would appreciate your advice on the following questions:
- Are the offered HP Z2 workstations suitable for demanding Moldex3D 2026 simulations and BLM meshing?
- Would the Threadripper PRO 7965WX provide a significant advantage over the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K?
- Is 64 GB RAM sufficient, or would you recommend 128 GB or even 256 GB for large BLM models?
- Does BLM mesh generation benefit from additional CPU cores beyond our 16-core simulation license?
- How important is GPU performance for BLM meshing and Moldex3D simulations?
Which workstation configuration would you recommend for our type of work?
Thank you in advance for your advice.
